[LOG] A Hunting We Will Go~

Who: Valeria (incisive), Raikou (pinktintedgamon), Gau (tenpa_tantrum), Yoite (erase_to_forget), Miharu (i_will_grant_it), Lelouch Lamperouge (dramatic_cape), Marco (guerilla_morph), Rin (revengeisalie), and Allen Walker (whitenighting)
Status: Active & Closed... for now!
Style: Action, any tense
Where: Just before the base of Raisato's mountain → the base of the mountain → WILD KANNAGARA!!!!
When: Week 5, Day 4 - starting likely just before or around noon
Rating: G for now, but ideally PG-13+
Warnings: Probably blood, guts, gore, animal death, and a bit of violence and derp~

NOTES: Once again, we'll be doing this thing in a not-quite-standard threading format. Please bear with us as this is highly experimental! Two teams will be involved in this log; the log will break down into individual / separate comment threads for the teams once the teams are decided upon prior to reaching the base of the mountain and we'll go from there! These notes may be updated in the future a few times.

[ Valeria lifts her eyes from the bridge down which her worn black boots are made to carry her unceremoniously. It's a beautiful day in Kannagara and the mountain itself seems sound and agreeable. Part of her wonders how Miharu, being as small and skinny as he is, and Yoite, being as small and skinny as he is, didn't blow away the day prior when they had ascended the mountain to reach the village located upon its summit, but these are thoughts she pushes aside along with many far weightier ones with a seemingly effortless smile as worry, no matter how well founded, is something she must not show at this critical junction.

There are six new reasons behind her, not to mention a staunch seventh, as to why she must keep herself in check, so keep herself in check she does. Balthier will be fine keeping vigil over the Strahl. Bored, but fine, and should trouble find him, he will no doubt out fly it. Still, it's strange being away from him like th -- right. Keeping herself in check. Focus!

Turning on her heel, she walks backwards as she observes the party, thankful for the proper vertical stretch upon which they walk, even if it is descending. Not that that's much of a challenge for a Turk, but -- ]

Seeing how we're almost at the base of the mountain, it would probably be a good idea to pick which team you want to go with now. As discussed earlier, you have two teams to choose from -- Raikou's team and my team.

[ She nods to Raikou, pushing a few stray strands of black behind her ear with a gloved hand as she does, and looks between the members of their motley crew. There's no point in rushing it or drowning them in professional sobriety. They'll meet the Turk soon enough, if they haven't at least seen glimpses already; and so, that smile of hers is halved, the second half assuming the form of a casual half-grin. ]

So have at it! We'll be at the base of the mountain in ten minutes. From there, we divide, conquer, and hopefully return with an ample supply of meat.

[There’s a small frown on Allen’s face as naturally follows the group down the mountain, aligning with Valeria’s cluster since he sort of knows her and she doesn’t unnerve him like some people might. Not being on the same team as Gau might annoy him a bit but he’s laid back in this sense; he likes being with people he knows, but it’s not that big a deal.

What the eff, how is all this becoming the new normal, anyway.

Allen rubs in agitation at the back of head in a moment of quiet and personal agitation. What the eff indeed. If he let himself think further on it he might be very, very emo… but better to keep looking forward! Ish. He approaches Val with an expectant look, however.]

Is it alright if I go with your group?

[Smile, cheek scratch. Hidden guilt at doing something like hunting when maybe he should be doing something more important, but these people seemed key to finding out what was happening.]

It would be a pleasure to have you, Allen!

[ Valeria smiles easy and issues a single, enthusiastic nod to Allen in response to his question. She has no real preference as to who joins her team, for this venture is meant largely to be a learning experience in addition to being a great opportunity to get to know one another better, and in far more ways than one. After all, if they're going to work together and rely upon one another to some degree, it's best they have some idea about each others skills, abilities, personal mechanics, and limitations, to name a few. She continues walking backwards down the vertical strip for the moment, radiating relaxed cheer all the same. ]

[Yoite doesn't know how or when he has ended up standing behind Raikou, but partly due to the fact that he is too lazy to move elsewhere but more so because Yoite trusts Raikou's skill with a sword he decides to stay where he is. It will be safest for Miharu that way. Besides, as much as Yoite hates to admit it, and he never will, he has begun to become fond of the pink haired samurai... in that way that one would be fond of an older brother that constantly teased you and pulled your hair but in the end was there when you needed it.

...How did that happen? Several weeks ago back in the world of Nabari becoming friends with Raikou was the farthest thing from his mind.

Either way now is neither the time or the place to try and figure out what has happened to change things between them and he just accepts that they have. Analyzing it can come later

Thus, Yoite tugs gently on Raikou's sleeve to signal that he wants to be on the samurai's team.]

[Gau glances toward his partner, tilts his head, and reaches out a hand to brush it again Raikou's arm before resolutely stepping away. He takes a few steps away, a little quicker, and then places himself next to Allen.]

I think it might be better for me to explore the possibilities of working with other people some. Just because there's no knowing when something might go wrong or the group get split up, and I'm too used to relying on Raikou-san.

[The words are said sort of to the group, but he smiles at Raikou as he says them, almost an apology. At least on the surface... though in actuality, his and Raikou's taking different teams is preplanned and for other tactical purposes.]

[Blinking a bit in surprise as Gau aligned himself beside him, Allen offers a companionable if nervous grin. He doesn’t get a lot of what Gau implies when he talks to the group, but understands some of the base scenarios. This was probably an awkward thing with Raikou, wasn’t it?]

It’s alright. [He’s reassuring, smiling and looking a bit old for his age. He’s a bit apprehensive about this as well, though.] We’re all learning this together, right?

[Allen certainly hopes so. Another grin; he does that a lot with strangers in particular.]

[Gau smiles, and his own expression is meant to be reassuring, because the other young man seems nervous.]

Mmhmm. I've hunted a little since I've been here, but I'll admit...my kills were fairly clumsy.

[He frowns, because a clumsy kill means suffering, and human or animal, he'd prefer not to create any. There's blood on his hands, yes, but he's always done his best not to cause suffering.]

I'm surprised you're not sick of me already, though, considering yesterday. [He winks, smiles a little brighter, taking a page from Raikou's book.]
May. 6th, 2010 04:01 am (UTC)
[Allen considers that point suddenly quite strongly, glancing into the distance with a very distant, distracted expression.]

I’ve had done hunting in a sense…

[He’s shuddering to his bones and probably recalling something horrid with master Cross. Memories like that bring a horrible pang of regret now, though, and he quickly pushes aside the childhood memory.]

It didn’t end well.

[Everyone should probably leave it at that. His grimaced expression would indicate such.]

Eh? Why would I be sick of you? [Allen kind of gets the humor of the wink as he says that, but he still has a nervous grin; it’s a bit of an odd statement to have pointed out in his opinion. But he really isn’t tired of seeing the other boy. Gau’s one of the most stable points in this new world he’s encountered. Friends are friends and will look out for each other, right?]

[Gau nods, wondering about the strange reaction at first, but then it's gone, so it doesn't matter. Like his own dreams.]

I see.

[He laughs and wrinkles his nose a little.]

Just though the scene might have put you off. My partner is... a jerk, sometimes. [Even as he says it, he glances toward Raikou, and there's a soft smile on his lips.]

Anyway, we'll have fun today, won't we?
May. 6th, 2010 04:52 am (UTC)
Ahh, that.

[Allen shrugs a bit, feeling a bit the Victorian-era British gentleman he was raised to be but very understanding of just about anything anyway.

Don’t worry about it. It wasn’t a problem or anything. He was just… concerned?

[Maybe. There’s a sudden, quick nod and grin for Gau’s sake. He can change his masks in an instant when he tries.]

I hope so. [Brutal murdering of animals isn’t high on his list of fun.] It will be interesting at least?
May. 6th, 2010 04:58 am (UTC)
[Gau nods.] I'm glad. That you weren't upset. You're nice.

[He doesn't blush this time, because it's a simple statement, and seems true.]

It should be. And it's a necessary survival skill, unless we're all going to become vegetarians. And I have to be able to feed Yoite-kun... which is never easy.
May. 6th, 2010 07:01 am (UTC)
[Allen blinks a bit at Gau’s remark about his character; he’s had his eccentricities pointed out to his face before but not quite like that. Except by some like Lenalee. It’s a bit of an overwhelming compliment, simple as it is.]

Yeah. …And being vegetarian then wouldn't work out so well.

[Grimace. Allen’s mostly a carnivore himself and certainly voracious, but hunting his own food despite the ability and some experience to do so isn't something easily envisioned. Oooh, and Yoite is someone with a large appetite as well? This will be something to inadvertently bond over.]

We’ll figure it out, I guess.

[Allen gives a thumbs-up, more confident than he feels. It’s like putting on act for all comers even as he tricks himself into the mood.]

Just a step at a time, right?

May. 6th, 2010 01:40 pm (UTC)
[Gau laughs and offers a thumbs-up in return, amused by his new friend.]

You got it!
May. 6th, 2010 05:50 am (UTC)
[Miharu walks behind everyone just taking in what everyone is doing...people watching was something he had become very good at.]

So...Gau isn't going with Raikou, but Yoite and me are?

[Raikou was someone that he still didn't fully know...so he wasn't sure what to think of him. But he did help save them, so he couldn't be so bad right?

Sorting things out in his head, he just takes in the surroundings in some small attempt to learn the path.]

keywords so much
[ Lelouch has been distinctly dreading this. He's already learned how to subsist mostly on the fruit that grows here naturally, after his covert attempts to trap some of the wildlife utterly failed. Now, in a large group of people, he's...let's say he's not happy.

Oh, look, Rin and Val and a few others are over there. Perhaps he can just sort of piggyback onto a group and look competent without having to actually attempt to feign competence. ]

Rin, good to have you.

[ He smiles encouragingly. ]

I believe so. [ He gives Rin a bow in return, a bit awkwardly. He hasn't done that since the few months he spent with the Kururugi family before the fall of Japan. ]

I have to admit, [ he says, leaning in as if he's a very jovial conspirator ] I'm not very good at this.

Sadly, it is so.

[ He shrugs and blushes a little. ]

It's not something I've ever, er...had to do.

[ Valeria can't help but smile at Rin and Lelouch as she listens to their exchange. Tease them? Of course she's going to tease them. It would be wrong of her to pass up this golden, individually wrapped opportunity. ]

The way you two talk, you'd think I had no hunting experience at all!

[ As she turns on her heel to walk in the appropriate direction whilst facing said direction, the grin on her face shifts and changes into something mildly mischievous, but mostly playful and positive by definition. It is sincere and uncut in the few seconds it can be seen. ]

What a rabble bunch. But then -

he shouldn't say anything.]

I'll go with Raikou, then.

[Marco catches Rin's expression. Well, as much as he liked for Rin and him to stay together, he knew this is a perfect opportunity to learn more about their . . . crewmates.

He leans close, whispering low enough for no one else can hear:]

Watch them closely.

[He can't really risk further elaboration. Not with everyone moving around. For all they knew, they walked into a den of lions. Marco has a feeling that he doesn't, but he can't be sure. He's not Cassie. He can't read people very well. But he'll have to make the most of it.]

I guess that's that then.

[ And not a moment too soon, for it is as Valeria makes that declaration that she finds herself walking upon level ground. Having arrived at the base of the mountain, she walks some ten feet, then halts and turns to survey the teams. She can't help but think they might have to change groups later. Sit down at some point in the future, too, and come up with a few strategies to insure that trust is built between those who don't know one another well or hardly at all. They need to know one another, how to work and work well with one another, but for now... for now, this will do. They will make do. ]

If you haven't already, find your team leader.

[ She turns her eyes to Raikou with a smile. ]

I guess we take it from here, huh?

[ 'And if anything happens,' isn't something she feels she needs to say to the pink-haired young man. They had spoken in advance about the hunt. They've prepared well enough and now is the time to get things under way. ]

Team 'Ahh!' sub-thread~
[Raikou returned the smile with an easy one of his own. His gaze flicked over to his partner, as if to offer the silent reminder of 'be careful, be on guard', then he's waving to his own group and stepping off in the opposite direction.

There was no real need to linger with the other team - they each had a mission to do, so it was time to get to it.

Although...Raikou did wait until they were out of earshot to glance at Miharu, Yoite, and Marco, amusement clear in his eyes.]

So...anyone ever hunt wild animals before? Do we need to lay a trap or just flush something out?
May. 16th, 2010 04:12 am (UTC)
Re: Team 'Ahh!' sub-thread~
I've never hunted wild animals before. [Marco admits that, at least.

He pauses. And adds,]

But I've been wild animals before.

Re: Team 'Ahh!' sub-thread~
You've been...

[Pausing to shoot Marco a dry look, he laughs softly.]

Unfortunately, I think that can only help us with the tracking method if you remember migration patterns or something to that effect.
May. 16th, 2010 04:26 am (UTC)
Re: Team 'Ahh!' sub-thread~
That entirely depends on what kind of animal you want for dinner. Mice and maybe rabbits got some really good hearing, but they are no match to an owl's own senses.
May. 16th, 2010 04:58 am (UTC)
Re: Team 'Ahh!' sub-thread~
Sadly, I'm afraid I've lost my taste for mice, though a well seasoned rabbit would serve for a suffieicient breakfast.

[A grin.]

Don't think it'd feed all of us though.

Team Bee Sub-Thread
[ Motioning to her group to follow her, Valeria sets off in the direction opposite of Raikou's team. In those first few steps, she replays the admissions of her team members, that most of them don't know how to hunt and have never had to do so before. She gathers that today is going to be a very long day, but not an unproductive one.

She turns on her heel, halts, and looks at the group after walking no more than five minutes. Inwardly, she is smiling. Outwardly, she presents herself with all the composure of a confident professional as she speaks. ]

Pick and name a ground predator starting... now.

[ Oh, and -- ]

You have less than five minutes.

Re: Team Bee Sub-Thread
[Gau's first thoughts, honestly, are human beings. Because all of the harm that he's seen come to anyone, all of the violence he knows, is human violence. Yet, this wasn't part of the question, so he bites at his lips, and thinks.

He's had a little experience with animals since he came here, but before that, mostly what he's seen was in books. In movies. In short encounters when a mission took them somewhere strange and new. Missions for the...
