log | Week 2, Day 1

Who: Kuchiki Rukia and Asano Rin
Status: Closed
Style: Third
Where: Raisato
When: Week 2, Day 1
Rating: PG

After leaving Byakuya's home (which seemingly felt like for forever), Rukia made her way to Raisato. She had promised Rin that she would come visit when she was feeling better. Thankfully, the 'feeling better' part made reference to her physical condition.

Mental and emotional was something else.

After her own dream the day before, Rukia was fighting a losing battle. Everything living thing (yes, this included shinigamis) needed sleep. But no, she refused. Sleeping and staying awake... she couldn't escape their horrors. At this point, she wasn't tired (yet), but felt emotionally drained. There was too much going on between her, Byakuya, and Renji that made her overly frustrated.

She had to get away and seeing Rin was the perfect excuse.

It definitely didn't take her three days to get to Raisato considering Rin mentioned that was how long it took her. It took Rukia about forty minutes, flashing stepping the entire way. But her body felt sluggish and she could have definitely made it there sooner. She wanted to contact Rin, but the heaviness she felt after Byakuya's dream didn't leave the girl in her right mind. But putting a post on the network would mean the others could find her (after all, she didn't want to be found right now, masking her reiatsu to be barely noticeable) and she didn't know how to filter things just yet (working with the device was strange enough).

But for now, she would have to look for Rin on her own. She remembered the girl's appearance considering their one video message back and forth; it was enough for Rukia to go on. How she felt didn't matter. She was breaking, falling apart on the inside, but she would definitely smile. A smile to mask how she was really feeling.

Rukia walked around the village, looking for Rin. It would be the fastest way (and only way at this point) to find her. Of course, she could have just found a place to settle and look out for her.

A place to settle.

That didn't seem like a bad idea.

It only took Rukia an instant for her location to be standing on the ground to on top of a roof. She swayed a bit but kept her ground. Her mind was trying to remind her how tired she was but she forced her body in not believing it was so. From here, Rukia could scope out most of the ground and layout of Raisato without needlessly moving around.

Rukia had gotten accustomed to her presence not being noticed by humans. In the real world, they couldn't see her or any other shinigami. It was strange how the people she had conversed with in Kannagara could see her so easily and she wasn't in her gigai. In fact, had been some time since she was in her replacement body. The thought of the mod soul crossed Rukia's mind and she had hoped the other was okay.

When Rin exited the house across from Rukia was standing, the shinigami hadn't even noticed. So much so that when Rin made her way into the alley, Rukia jumped down in front of her, landing on her two feet as firmly as she could in her state. Of course she saw someone there, but it was second nature to go unnoticed.

Rukia turned at the sound of her name. It was only then that it clicked that, 'yes people can see me now, human, shinigami, or whoever they might be'. But the female voice was slightly unfamiliar. No shinigami in the Gotei Thirteen had that tone. And it's not very often that many of the shinigami (especially no name ones) called her by her first name (honorific added or not). But this had to be someone she knew. There was no reason to draw the sword at her side.

When she looked over Rin, she thought for a moment as to who this person might be. She had only talked to two females over the Hitomi and only one called her 'Rukia-san'. Violet eyes closed for a second before opening, accompanying a smile. "Rin."

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person. I apologize for not contacting you before hand." Rukia had her reasons. She gave a light bow. In asking about her recovery, perhaps too many beats passed before Rukia answered. "Yes, I have. Thank you for asking." Physically, she was feeling better. But that was what Rin was asking about right?

Thankfully Rin wasn't that tall, so when the girl closed the distance between them, Rukia didn't have to strain her neck to look up at her. Still tall, just nothing compared to Renji. "Have you been well?"

"Sure. Although if I were to be in intruding..." The feeling of being a bother to someone still plagued her. "And I'll help with the tea." Rukia still wasn't used to the idea of being served. Maybe it was only to put herself at ease, but Rin had been nothing but nice to Rukia, so she would want to pay the favor in the slightest way.

"But I--" there was no fighting this, Rukia knew that much. She sighed with a smile, defeated. "All right. And there's no need to be so formal." If this was one place she didn't have to be treated like a noble, then she would stay here. Formalities just weren't her and what she was about. Rukia followed behind. And in doing so, it didn't feel weird or awkward. It didn't feel like the times she would be walking behind Byakuya. She didn't feel distant, she didn't feel alone, she didn't feel small, she didn't feel shunned. The absence of those things drew Rukia closer to Rin. She felt comfortable.

"All right." Rukia was in the middle of taking off her straw woven sandals as Rin stepped away. The place, she took note of, was a decent size and was most definitely comfortable. Once in her tabi socks, she took a step in, exploring the area with her eyes.

It was smaller than the Kuchiki manor, which made Rukia feel more comfortable. Bigger habitats and homes just made the lonelier feeling more grand that it should be. Rukia knew she would feel welcomed and calm here. Actually, she already was. The dreams that both her and her brother had slipped away from her mind for the moment. She was able to relax.

Rukia nodded at the girl's offer and made her way into the seating room. It was about a quarter of the size of the Kuchiki manor and about half the size of the seating area in her division quarters. Her division had always been her third home (Rukongai being first and the Kuchiki manor second) so Rin's house was a comfortable setting for Rukia. But her mind slipped away to the concern of her captain. She... hadn't heard from him recently. Not to mention that she had no idea where Ukitake was located. She would... at least need to report into him right?

But captains... they had to speak to one another. Byakuya should know where--

No, she wasn't doing to do that.

Just as she had found Rin on her own, she would have to do the same for her captain. She couldn't rely on Byakuya, nor did she want anyone to find her. Or at least, come in contact with Rin. Not that Rukia was in any danger, but she thought she could spare Rin of interrogations that would be brought on by Byakuya and Renji.

Although, reporting to her captain would be ideal. Ukitake always had a way for understanding her. Well... contacting him would come later. She was in the presence of someone else... in their house. Rukia knew she would have to direct her attention to Rin in respect. She planned on doing so.

The shinigami was too caught up in her own thoughts to notice that Rin was upset in the other room. In her thoughts, her mind was fighting with what to concern itself with. As long as she kept her mind racing, it would keep her up and there would be no need for sleep.

Yes, no sleeping meant no dreaming. She hoped at least if she slept she wouldn't dream. But there was no guarantee of that. None at all.

Clearing of the throat. Rukia was used to that motion from her brother when she happened to drift off in thought. Her attention snapped back to Rin, looking up at it. "My apologizes." She greeted the girl with a soft smile and then looked at the tray she was carrying. "It wasn't too much trouble was it?" the shinigami asked curiously. Rukia had only hoped it wasn't.... she felt bad about it after all. She happened to be using Rin as an escape, but a valid one.

Rukia did take notice of the chair, but perhaps it was of her own digression that she didn't use it. In the Kuchiki manor (everything seemed to be going back to that), it was only Byakuya who was allowed to sit in that chair. Or if by chance any of the captains stopped by, the chair would be offered. But that was never a place for her to sit.

"Thank you for preparing all this," Rukia said, looking at the display before her. Taking the cup into her hands, the small shinigami sipped it. "It's good," she said with a smile.

"Yes," Rukia said with reassurance. The taste was something that resembled a familiar tea, but Rukia couldn't put her finger on it. Either way, it was quite good. Indulging in tea, company, and small talk was never a bad thing. She was out of her element of the Kuchiki household, which meant she could be herself. Sometimes, she took enjoyment in this. Rin didn't know her or her past or who her brother was. For the moment, these small things were important and something to be cherished.

"Perhaps, we can look together some time."

"I'm not sure how much help with the map I can be, but I'm willing to help." After all, Rukia was new to the village and didn't know here much of anything was located.

It might have seemed to be a strange gesture, but allies or even friends... In this place, it seemed it was going to be needed. To rely on others, to rely on people who aren't like you... who are human. Rukia looked over Rin for a moment before taking a slice of the apple. Taking a small bite, she came to know that the fruit was tasteful. That definitely put a small smile on her face.

When was the last time she had eaten away? Perhaps her discarded hunger made anything taste twenty times better.

"Yes, I suppose that would have to come first." Rukia gave off a light laugh before taking another piece. "And yes, it's quite good. Thank you." She finished off the piece in her hand before returning to the tea.

"I know this is nothing much but idle chatter, but perhaps we can exchange information about ourselves?" Rin did seem to be a good person and someone Rukia wanted to get to know better. Perhaps this could be a start.

"Hm? Well I don't mean right now," Rukia said, tossing aside the hidden meaning behind Rin's question. She knew what the other female was hinting at, but decided not to go into any further. It was best this way. She was fine. Or rather, she had to be.

"Anything you'd like to mention. You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to. We all keep secrets after all." Her words fell from the smile on her lips.

Rukia listened intently to the girl, keeping a neutral face. There was no need to judge Rin. Who would believe Rukia went from being a rebellious child on the streets to a girl of nobility? But either way, she listened to Rin with an open heart and mind. She picked up the stall in the other girl's thoughts and words and decided not to question it. After all, it may have not been something she wanted to mention. Rukia nodded her head in confirmation that she was listening and that if Rin liked, she could continue.

"Me?" she questioned, acting surprised at the change of pace (she really wasn't). "Well according to the dreams displayed, I'm sure you may know that both my brother and my best friend are here. We are the same... shinigami. We fight to protect in a basic sense. Souls and humans need to be protected from forces they may or may not be able to see. That has been my duty." Rukia shifted before she continued. "I believe I told you I was adopted. Nii-sama, isn't just my brother, but also my brother-in-law." She took a sip of tea and waited for Rin's reaction.

But these were things Rin would come to find out either by observation or asking someone who knew here. So it wasn't exactly divulging information as Rukia saw it.

"Yes. Not everyone has the potential to become a shinigami. That's why there is schooling. It's from there it is judged if were are capable and where we might be placed. My captain is here as well even though I have not heard from him recently." She was concerned about Ukitake. But it was her captain, she knew he had to be well. Well... in a well enough condition for a person who was sickly.

"A doctor? Hm, in a sense, yes." She knew the point Rin was getting at. For doctors, they just had people who excelled in healing kido. But she knew that Ichigo's father was a doctor and there was just no way he didn't know what he was doing. And she knew there was no healing kido involved.

"Even though I am a shinigami, it does not mean I've not made selfish decisions." To save her life and not his. Kaien. For that split second, her life was more important than saving him. Even now, she regretted that decision.

"Well, no. I suppose we do not differ too much in that aspect. After all, we were once human." The only difference for Rukia here was that she didn't want to make that decision. Her body and her mind moved in polar opposites of each other then. To save Kaien, but she only thought of herself. Violet eyes looked off to the side, lost in memory.

She wondered what things would have come if she hadn't taken his life that night... if he hadn't of left his heart with her. Subconsciously, a hand cross to her own heart.
